NOT-SO-RICH GIRL PROBLEMS

So today my siblings and I went swimming in the pool at my sister's fancy estate. You know, the kind of estate where everyone's got butlers and chefs and everyone drives shiny cars; you'd think they were straight out of a movie.

As we walked in, I couldn't help but notice all the glamorous rich girls with their designer bags, that probably cost more than my entire outfit and their shiny phones. They were chatting with their boyfriends and sipping overpriced iced tea. And there I was, with my messy hair sticking out every which way, clutching my favorite worn-out handbag with a broken zipper and wondering why I had bothered to come at all.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not exactly struggling or anything. I mean, I'm comfortable; I've got a roof over my head and food on my plate. But it's hard not to feel bad when you're surrounded by a bunch of rich girls living their best lives, wearing designer outfits that look like they were plucked from a fashion magazine. It made me feel like a commoner trespassing in a world of luxury.

The thing is, they don't just have the stuff, but they also have the confidence to carry it on. Like they were born knowing how to maneuver in this world of luxury and privilege. Meanwhile, I'm over here trying to figure out how many times I can wear a pair of jeans because it's the only one I own that makes me feel remotely cool.

I know I shouldn't compare myself to others, but it's hard not to when everywhere I look, I see girls in glamorous outfits with glossy hair. I'd like to say it doesn't bother me, but honestly, it does. A lot.

But as I sat by the pool, watching them laugh and pose for selfies, I reminded myself of the things that truly matter in my life. I have a loving family, amazing friends, and passions that make me feel alive. Money can't buy these things, so I'm grateful for what I've got.

Top 6 Not-so-obvious Reasons Why Average Teen Girls Feel Insecure Around Rich Girls

  1. Their ability to look unbothered at all times: They've always got this look that plainly says "I don't care what you think of me, I'm rich".
  2. Their perfect "just woke up" look: Seriously, how do they get that effortless glamour just by rolling out of bed? I roll out of bed looking like I just won a wrestling match with my pillow.
  3. Their perfect closet: They always manage to look like Victoria's Secret models with ease, and they never seem to repeat an outfit.
  4. Their photogenic nature: They always seem to take the perfect pics. Everything has to be perfect; the lighting, the filter, the effortless smile. I, on the other hand, can't even fake a smile for a family picture, not to talk of posting it on social media.
  5. Their ability to go out with their friends whenever they want to: They can make plans to hang out with their friends at the pool or go shopping and come back whenever they're ready.
  6. Their ability to put on designer outfits and act like they are just "clothes": They could be holding Chanel bags and putting on Louis Vuitton dresses without being enthusiastic about it.

So, yeah, I still envy them sometimes, but it's satisfying to know that even without all the gloss and glam, I’m doing just fine. And who knows? Maybe one day I’ll be the girl sipping iced tea in a designer dress. And I'll be the one who makes the money for myself, not just spending my dad's money.
